Harmony Music House of Boulder is hosting 4 weeks of Summer Ukulele Camp for kids (Ages 5 to 9) in June, July, and August

The primary focus of the camp is to get your child playing ukulele, hand-drums, and singing. There will be direct instruction in all three areas which will all relate to American Folk Music. In between these lessons, the day will be filled with games and activities that are music related and incorporate basic music theory.

Ukulele: The children will learn basic chords and strumming patterns. These techniques will be applied and used while singing songs. We have developed a Ukulele method for children that requires no prior musical experience. We tune the Ukuleles to an open C tuning, which makes it much easier to make chords with the left hand. Regular Ukulele tuning requires much more complex hand shapes. We have found that our method allows children to begin playing on the first day.

Singing: The children will be introduced to a variety of singing songs. Formal voice training will not be a part of this program. We will just allow singing to be free and FUN.

Each day we will meet at Harmony Music House for morning circle. We will have a chance to spend time together and share what we are doing for the day. We will decide, weather pending, if we will walk over to North Boulder Park and continue our day under the trees and the playground, or stay in the cool air-conditioning at the house.

Deluxe Camp: (Private daily piano lessons)

In addition to day camp we are offering a daily private piano lesson, which can be scheduled before or after our regular camp hours. We are offering these lessons at a discounted rate of $30 per 30 minute lesson. This option will give your child a more in depth opportunity to study music with their own private teacher. The lessons will take place on all four days, giving them the opportunity to explore another instrument privately. Since these are daily lessons, it is not necessary to have your own piano at home to practice on. The cost for piano lessons will $120 in addition to the regular camp rate. You can sign up for this option below under Deluxe Camp. There are only two spots available per session. One before and one after camp.

Harmony Music House is hosting 3 weeks of Summer Guitar Camp for Kids (Ages 9 to 12)

Harmony Music House has a developed a Summer Guitar Camp for students that are at a beginner playing level. Our campers will be introduced to the beginning fundamentals of guitar playing, which include, tuning, learning chords, playing single note melodies, rhythm techniques, and more. Each day the students will be introduced to new songs, and continue playing the songs that have already been introduced. We will cover material that ranges from Folk and Bluegrass, The Beatles, and modern popular music. We can even survey the kids to see what kind of music they are interested in playing, and make adjustments.

In order to break up three hours of straight guitar instruction, the campers will have a chance to get outside. North Boulder Park is right around the corner, and as long as the weather is permitting, we will take a walk to the park to get some energy out, and have a little free time.

Instrument required - yes ( There are many styles of guitars. An acoustic guitar, or a nylon string guitar will be best suited for this class). If your child doesn't have a guitar on hand, we do have a few guitars available, but please let us know if you need one so we can reserve it for you. Acoustic guitars can be purchased at a fairly inexpensive rate. You might want to try Craigslist, or we can guide you if you'd like to buy something new.

Each session has a four person minimum in order for the class "to make".
The minimum age is nine (In order to keep the class on pace, we will not enroll younger children)

Extra private instruction. We have a limited amount of space for a daily 30 minute private lesson before or after each day of camp (DELUXE CAMP) If you are signing up for this option we will email you to get the extra lessons scheduled.

DEAD FLOYD is a celebration of the music of two of rock and roll?s greatest bands, The Grateful Dead and Pink Floyd, mashed together into one high-energy, unpredictable show. It all began a few weeks after Christmas, about 15 years ago. My dear dad had politely abandoned the electric guitar he had been bought by Santa/Mum as a ?relax and unwind? gift.

I, on the other hand, saw it as my opportunity to swoop in and become the family rock star?well, something like that. At the very least, I figured life looked better and attracted more boys to the yard if I walked around with a black Fender guitar in my arms. So, I quickly embarked on learning all the big hits, Oh Danny Boy and Stairway to Heaven being on high ?MUST LEARN!? rotation. My dad?s ?How To Play The Guitar? book from the 70?s that I had dug out from the variety of dusty music paraphernalia crammed into the piano chair seat at our family home was what you would call limited in the world of popular music circa 1999. However, I seemed to make it work. My angst filled teenage diary was now coming alive to the simple G, C & D chords I had now mastered, and my regular bathroom series concerts (audience in attendance maxing out at 2) were in full swing. For me to show any kind of interest in something for longer than at least 6 months had my parents kissing the ground and sky, agreeing that I may truly be invested in music and this might not just be another ?phase? I was going through. Putting ?Recording Budget? at the top of my Christmas wish list that year, my parents/Santa came through with the goods by way of $150 to spend at the local recording depot to track two of my most current musical creations. I was 15 and the world truly was my oyster. I had 2 ?hits? in my back pocket, the teenage acne was fading fast, my first underage tattoo was ill fittingly inked across my lower back and my local digs of Devonport never looked brighter. And just as life dishes up sweet cake, it humbly throws you a truck of lemons right after. My dad got sick, real sick. He passed away not long after and my world quickly fell down around me. At 16 years old, I never understood the weight of his passing, the hole it would create in my life and the way it would shape the years to come. It was songwriting and that enchanting attraction of music that would catch my fall that year, and it did, in a big way. I wrote a song called, Hallelujah. A song that pieced together all the sentiments, all the loss, all the sadness in losing a parent. It truly was the only way I could pry open my feelings at the time to relieve the pressure valve on my heart. After a year in Argentina, a failed relationship, and a move to Australia, I was back in the swing of life. Age 21, working 3 waitressing jobs in Sydney and saying yes to every shitty gig I could hustle, I felt like I was on top of the world again. I later signed to Island Records, ditched 2 of the waitressing jobs and began work on my first E.P. with Tony Buchen. This is when I started really tasting the musician dream. Following the somewhat underground success of Extended Play, I quickly learned that the U.S. was where I needed to be. My A&R at the label agreed and next minute I found myself making my first full length album Holy Smoke at prestigious Capitol Studios with Mike Elizondo at the helm and The Cardinals as my band. It truly was a whirlwind time in my life. I mean, I even had kittens brought to an interview with Rolling Stone one time to just ?set the vibe? for the interview. Were Unicorns going to show up for breakfast with me tomorrow? Quite possibly. For a little gal from New Zealand, this all seemed like some definite pie in the sky shit, but I was blissfully taking it all in my stride at the time. My slight obsession with a band called Shovels & Rope quickly became full blown, and I tracked down anyone associated to help me write and produce the next album. Enter, Butch Walker & Jake Sinclair. These two gents were pivotal in my career, setting the tone of a ?fuck you, I got this? attitude and more importantly, a careless abandon when it came to red wine. We all got on splendidly and spent a glorious summer in Santa Monica writing and recording, Gravel & Wine. That album went on to do some great things. Not only did it swipe a few Tui Awards in NZ (very proud moment indeed!), it helped kick of the sync career I now have. Placements with Heineken, Grey?s Anatomy and Nissan began rolling in and my desire to make the USA home was getting stronger. I was heavily touring at this point, I think a mixture of escapism and a decent excuse for unwashed hair seemed a big draw at the time. In the summer of 2013 I was invited to play The Vans Warped Tour. Without a doubt, I was the most obvious fishy out of water that summer. Entering the stage with my rockabilly/western attired band, amongst a sea of death metal and punk music we were definitely a band for the parents that accompanied their young children that summer. However, it was there that I almost stumbled into my future by finding my greatest love and now husband Jason Butler. A catalyst in every sense of the word, he was the man that helped pack my bags and make the hop over the pacific to the city of Los Angeles a reality. Ready for album number 3, Blood To Bone consumed 2015 with writing and recording. I felt a larger than usual dose of self-deprecation that year and decided the only way to quell that feeling of inadequacy was to try producing an album. So, I did. A quick surprise marriage to Jason in Hawaii rounded out 2015 and with my tanks full of love I was ready to take a break from music for a while, or at least I thought I was. Like everything in life, well, particularly with music, when I make these bold statements to myself about packing it all in, the music universe always finds an uncanny way to show me the juiciest of carrots to lure me back. I was convinced that 2016 would be a year of honing in on myself as a writer for others, hanging up my boots on being an artist for a minute. Little did I know, the ?artist carrot? would be especially juicy that year. It began with Nashville. A trip down there during a hot summer is like playing out a scene from a classic romance film?think The Notebook. My friend (NOT Ryan Gosling, but wished it was) and I sat on the porch after a day?s writing, Thai food take out and homemade old fashioned in hand, reflecting on the glory of the day as the warm air whipped around us, I kept thinking all these songs we were writing would be better if I tucked them away for one of my albums. After 11 ?tuck away tracks? I found myself looking at a very decent body of work. And that will be an album called Ivory, releasing March 2018. So there you have it, a bio of sorts, but rather a peek into the last 15 years of my careers? twists and turns and how it got me to here.

Larry Lacerte is a ski patroller turned musician from Frisco, CO. Larry performs a diverse mix of cover songs and growing repertoire of originals as a solo artist and as a member of the band, Broke Down Rodeo. His latest release, Dreaming of the Ways, is his first full band studio EP. The album has a roots rock flavor and represents a few of his favorite original songs recorded with his band.

Greg Brown was born in the Hacklebarney section of southeastern Iowa and raised by a family that made words and music a way of life. His seasoned songwriting, storytelling, and music are deeply rooted in that place. He moves audiences with warmth, humor, a thundering voice and his unpretentious musical vision.

His mother played the electric guitar, his grandfather played the banjo, his grandmother was a poet, and his father was a Pentecostal preacher. Greg?s youth was spread across a map of the Midwest as they moved between churches (and even denominations), but music was always a staple. Gospel and hymns, classical, hillbilly, early rock and roll, country, and blues coalesced into a simmering stew of sound. Greg studied classical voice and piano as a child and also sang with choirs and in state competitions. At six he took up the pump organ and at twelve he learned the basics of guitar from his mother (who was also an English teacher?so books and poetry were always around the house.

At 18, Greg won a contest to play an opening set for singer Eric Andersen in Iowa City, who then encouraged him to head east. Moving to New York, Greg landed a job at Gerdes Folk City in the Village running hootenannies. Next he tried Portland, Los Angeles and Las Vegas, but after a few years he moved back to Iowa. He recorded a couple of albums on his own (44 & 66 and The Iowa Waltz), then began working on the renowned national radio show A Prairie Home Companion and touring nationally. After Greg teamed up with Bob Feldman in 1983, they re-released Greg?s first two albums under the name Red House Records -- the beginning of the now legendary folk/roots label that has released nearly all of Greg?s 27 albums.

In 1985 Greg released In the Dark With You, an acoustic classic. In 1986, he set poems of William Blake?s Songs of Innocence and of Experience to music on a critically acclaimed album of the same name. One Big Town (1989) learned Greg his first Indie Award for Adult Contemporary Album of the Year, as well as a rave review in Rolling Stone. Dream Café (1992) was also a huge critical success. The Washington Post called it an ?unassuming triumph,? and in the opinion of Z Magazine, it rivaled Bob Dylan?s Blood on the Tracks.

Following Dream Café, Brown recorded Friend of Mine with Bill Morrissey, which earned him his first Grammy nomination, and he also released a children?s album, Bath Tub Blues. 1994?s The Poet Game saw significant international radio play (charting on AAA and topping The Gavin Report?s Americana chart) and earned not only critical raves, but also the Indie award for singer-songwriter Album of the Year. The Live One (1995) proved to be a fan favorite capturing the humor, warmth, insights, and spirit of his legendary live shows. His 1996 release, Further In, topped them all: critics called it a masterpiece and it received a four-star review in Rolling Stone. Greg?s 1997 release ? Slant 6 Mind ? received more of the same and earned Greg his second Grammy nomination. 1999 brought the re-release of One Night, a live concert recording originally released on the Coffeehouse Extempore label. Two releases followed in 2000: Over and Under (Trailer Records) and the critically acclaimed Covenant, which won the Association for Independent Music?s award for Best Contemporary Folk Album of 2000.

The year 2002 brought two albums ? Milk of the Moon and Going Driftless: An Artist?s Tribute to Greg Brown. The latter, features some of today?s best female songwriters including Lucinda Williams, Ani DiFranco, Iris Dement, Gillian Welch, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Greg Brown?s three daughters and more. These artists joined forces to record a beautiful tribute album ? each selecting their own favorite song by Brown to cover for a special CD benefiting The Breast Cancer Fund. In September of 2003, Greg released If I Had Known ? Essential Recordings, 1980-1996 (Red House), a retrospective w/DVD highlighting the body of Greg?s work through 1996. Honey in the Lions Head, was released shortly thereafter (Trailer Records) and is an album of folk standards from the public domain. Also in 2004, he released In the Hills of California: Live From the Kate Wolf Festival 1997-2003, a collection of live performances recorded at the Kate Wolf Memorial Music Festival featuring guest appearances by Nina Gerber, Shawn Colvin, Garnet Rogers, Dave Moore and others.

In 2006, Greg released The Evening Call, his first new studio album in over four years, which charted high on Americana and folk radio, earned him five stars in Mojo and garnered rave reviews in No Depression, Acoustic Guitar and The Washington Post. The 2-disc collection Dream City: Essential Recordings Vol 2, 1997-2006 features some of these new Americana classics along with other fan favorites from his last six studio albums and some previously unreleased material and live tracks.

Joshua Redman is one of the most acclaimed and charismatic jazz artists to have emerged in the decade of the 1990s. Born in Berkeley, California, he is the son of legendary saxophonist Dewey Redman and dancer Renee Shedroff. He was exposed at an early age to a variety of musics (jazz, classical, rock, soul, Indian, Indonesian, Middle-Eastern, African) and instruments (recorder, piano, guitar, gatham, gamelan), and began playing clarinet at age nine before switching to what became his primary instrument, the tenor saxophone, one year later. The early influences of John Coltrane, Ornette Coleman, Cannonball Adderley and his father, Dewey Redman, as well as The Beatles, Aretha Franklin, the Temptations, Earth, Wind and Fire, Prince, The Police and Led Zeppelin drew Joshua more deeply into music. But although Joshua loved playing the saxophone and was a dedicated member of the award-winning Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble and Combo from 1983-86, academics were always his first priority, and he never seriously considered becoming a professional musician.

In 1991 Redman graduated from Harvard College summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a B.A. in Social Studies. He had already been accepted by Yale Law School, but deferred entrance for what he believed was only going to be one year. Some of his friends (former students at the Berklee College of Music whom Joshua had met while in Boston) had recently relocated to Brooklyn, and they were looking for another housemate to help with the rent. Redman accepted their invitation to move in, and almost immediately he found himself immersed in the New York jazz scene. He began jamming and gigging regularly with some of the leading jazz musicians of his generation: Peter Bernstein, Larry Goldings, Kevin Hays, Roy Hargrove, Geoff Keezer, Leon Parker, Jorge Rossy and Mark Turner (to name just a few). In November of that year, five months after moving to New York, Redman was named the winner of the prestigious Thelonious Monk International Saxophone Competition. This was only one of the more visible highlights from a year that saw Redman beginning to tour and record with jazz masters such as his father, Jack DeJohnette, Charlie Haden, Elvin Jones, Joe Lovano, Pat Metheny, Paul Motian, and Clark Terry. For Joshua, this was a period of tremendous growth, invaluable experience and endless inspiration.

Now fully committed to a life in music, Redman was quickly signed by Warner Bros. Records and issued his first, self-titled album in the spring of 1993, which subsequently earned Redman his first Grammy nomination. That fall saw the release of Wish, where Joshua was joined by the all-star cast of Pat Metheny, Charlie Haden and Billy Higgins. He toured extensively with Metheny throughout the latter half of that year. His next recording, MoodSwing, was released in 1994, and it introduced his first permanent band, which included three other young musicians who have gone on to become some of the most important and influential artists in modern jazz: pianist Brad Mehldau, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Brian Blade. A later edition of this ensemble included guitarist Peter Bernstein, pianist Peter Martin, bassist Chris Thomas and Blade. Over a series of celebrated recordings including Spirit of the Moment/Live at the Village Vanguard, Freedom in the Groove and Timeless Tales (for Changing Times), Redman established himself as one of the music?s most consistent and successful bandleaders, and added soprano and alto saxophones to his instrumental arsenal. Joshua?s second acclaimed quartet, featuring pianist Aaron Goldberg, bassist Reuben Rogers and drummer Gregory Hutchinson, was formed in 1998 and made its recorded debut on the 2000 album Beyond. The dynamic interplay and uncommon rapport of this group inspired Redman to write and record his first long-form composition, Passage of Time, which was released in 2001.

A year later, Redman began to channel his jazz sensibilities through new instrumentation and formed The Elastic Band, a flexible, electrified, groove-based trio built on an ongoing collaboration with keyboardist Sam Yahel and drummer Brian Blade. The band debuted on the 2002 releases yaya3 and Elastic. Drummer Jeff Ballard began to play regularly with the Elastic Band later that year, and he (along with Blade and Yahel) played a central role in their next recording, the Grammy-nominated Momentum, which was released in 2005 to inaugurate Redman?s affiliation with Nonesuch Records, and featured a diverse and exciting lineup of special guests.

In 2000, Redman was named Artistic Director for the Spring Season of the non-profit jazz-presenting organization SFJAZZ. Redman and SFJAZZ Executive Director Randall Kline had an idea that The New York Times called a ?eureka moment?; the creation of the SFJAZZ Collective, an ensemble distinguished both by the creativity of its members and a unique primary emphasis on composition. Inaugurated in 2004, the eight-piece band consists of a multi-generational cast of accomplished musicians. The Collective?s repertoire features both commissioned works and new arrangements of the work of great modern jazz composers. In March 2007, Redman announced that he was taking a hiatus from both the SFJAZZ Artistic Directorship and the SFJAZZ Collective in order to focus on new projects.

The following month, Nonesuch released Redman?s first ever piano-less trio record, Back East, featuring Joshua alongside three stellar bass and drum rhythm sections (Larry Grenadier & Ali Jackson, Christian McBride & Brian Blade, Reuben Rogers & Eric Harland) and three very special guest saxophonists (Chris Cheek, Joe Lovano and Dewey Redman). On Compass, released in January 2009 (Nonesuch), Joshua continues to explore the expansive trio format, and with a group of collaborators as intrepid as he is ? bassists Larry Grenadier and Reuben Rogers, and drummers Brian Blade and Gregory Hutchinson ? Redman literally and figuratively stretches the shape of the trio approach; on the most audacious of these tunes, he performs with the entire lineup in a double-trio setting.

Starting in late 2009, Joshua began performing with a new collaborative band called James Farm featuring pianist Aaron Parks, bassist Matt Penman, and drummer Eric Harland. The band infuses traditional acoustic jazz quartet instrumentation with a progressive attitude and modern sound. The band?s performances and two albums have been met with rave reviews across the globe.

In May 2013, Redman released Walking Shadows (Nonesuch), a collection of vintage and contemporary ballads produced by his friend and frequent collaborator Brad Mehldau. This is Redman?s first recording to include an orchestral ensemble and includes a core ensemble of Mehldau on piano, Larry Grenadier on bass, and Brian Blade on drums. About Walking Shadows, the New York Times says ?there hasn?t been a more sublimely lyrical gesture in his 20-year recording career.?

Released in June 2014, Redman?s newest album, Trios Live (Nonesuch), was recorded at New York City?s Jazz Standard and Washington, DC?s Blues Alley during stands with two different trios ? Redman and drummer Gregory Hutchinson with bassist Matt Penman (Jazz Standard) and Redman and Hutchinson with bassist Reuben Rogers (Blues Alley). Trios Live features four original tunes by Redman and interpretations of three additional songs.

After their first partnership during 2011 performances at the Blue Note in New York at the invitation of The Bad Plus, and intermittent performances together over the years, Redman and the tight-knit trio released their first studio album titled The Bad Plus Joshua Redman in May 2015 on Nonesuch. Redman explains the draw of this unique collaboration: ?Playing with The Bad Plus has allowed me to explore a part of my playing, and my musical heritage, that I?ve never before accessed in quite the same way with any other group. The adventure with The Bad Plus pushes me toward the fringes and draws me into the core.? Redman was nominated for Best Improvised Jazz Solo on the track ?Friend or Foe? from this debut recording collaboration.

He wrote and performed the music for Louis Malle?s final film Vanya on 42nd Street, and is both seen and heard in the Robert Altman film Kansas City.
