Fareed Haque is a modern guitar virtuoso. Steeped in classical and jazz traditions, his unique command of the guitar and different musical styles inspire his musical ventures with tradition and fearless innovation.Born in 1963 to a Pakistani father and Chilean mother, Fareed's extensive travels and especially long stays in Spain, France, Iran, Pakistan, and Chile exposed Haque to different musics from a very early age. While this natural eclecticism has become a hallmark of Haque's music, it was repeated visits to Von Freeman's Chicago jam sessions that gave Haque a grounding in the Chicago blues and jazz traditions. The 1981 recipient of North Texas State University's Jazz Guitar Scholarship, Haque spent a year studying with renowned jazz guitarist and pedagogue Jack Peterson. Fareed's growing interest in the classical guitar led him to transfer to Northwestern University, where he completed his studies in classical guitar under David Buch, John Holmquist and Anne Waller.Soon after his transfer to NU, Haque came to the attention of multi-instrumentalist Howard Levy and joined his latin-fusion group Chevere. Thru Levy Haque was introduced to Paquito D'Rivera and began a long and fruitful relationship with the Cuban NEA Jazz Master. Numerous world tours and recordings including Manhattan Burn, Celebration, Havana Cafe, Tico Tico, Live at the MCG were to follow. Especially notable is the classic and award winning Reunion featuring Haque along with Arturo Sandoval, Danilo Perez, Giovanni Hidalgo, Mark Walker, and David Fink.Thru D'Rivera, Haque was brought to the attention of Sting, who had just begun his record label Pangaea. Sting invited Haque to join the label and he released 2 critically acclaimed recordings Voices Rising and Manresa. Haque toured briefly with Sting, including notable appearances at The Montreux Jazz Festival as well as NBC's Michelob Presents Sunday Night with David Sanborn, but his own career demands led Haque in other directions.Haque has been featured on WTTW's ArtBeat and Chicago Tonight, Ben Sidran's New Visions, Michelob Presents Sunday Night with David Sanborn on NBC, his own Lonesome Pines special for PBS, and on BET cable jazz channel. Fareed has twice been selected as Talent Deserving Wider Recognition in Downbeat Magazine. In 1989 Haque also joined the faculty at Northern Illinois University as professor of jazz and classical guitar. He continues to teach at NIU to this day.

For the first time in recent times, Portland Oregon will be placed on the map as a premiere destination for national and emerging local Deaf talent who will perform live on stage, backed by the latest sound visualization and tactile technologies.

The festival line up includes nationally renowned Deaf hip-hop artist Sean Forbes (Deaf & Loud/DPAN), and dance sensation Antoine Hunter and his Urban Jazz Dance troupe. More artists will be announced in the coming weeks.

NWDAF is produced by CymaSpace, a Portland based nonprofit consisting of passionate Deaf & hearing community advocates who volunteer year-round to facilitate cultural events inclusive of the Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing. CymaSpace engineers & artists lend their skills to develop a variety of art installations and stage sets that synergize sound, light, and vibration. The work of CymaSpace has been featured nationally on Jimmy Kimmel Live, as well as at festivals like What The Fest?, PDX Winter Light Festival, Kentucky DeaFestival and in prominent local institutions such as Portland Art Museum and Oregon Museum of Science & Industry (OMSI).

Sean Tillmann has been making records under the name "Har Mar Superstar" since 1999. Under the Har Mar moniker, Sean has gone through a plethora of phases, ranging from fun- loving, beats-based music pioneer (he and Peaches shared stages early on) to angry arena crowd opener (a 2002 public lewdness allegation proves it) to soul music crooner. His last album Bye Bye 17 opened a lot of people's minds to his songwriting prowess, which has existed since day one of his career. For years, Tillmann was an artist's artist when The Strokes, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Gossip, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many other legends decided to collaborate and/or take him on tour. Different phases of his career brought him fame through the fickle worlds of indie, British pop, LA DJ-dom, and New York night crawling. Bye Bye 17 was an eye-opener to the music world, not that Tillmann wasn't used to accolades through his former work with Sean Na Na, Gayngs, Neon Neon, and Calvin Krime. Sean had "arrived as a songwriter." After living in LA and NYC for 12 years, Sean moved back to Minneapolis, MN, where he is most creative. With the help of Chris Bierden (Polia, Bye Bye 17), Ryan McMahon (Har Mar, Lizzo), Matt Sweeney (Chavez, Adele, Neil Diamond, Johnny Cash, Cat Stevens), and Ryan Olson (Polia, Marijuana Deathsquads), Har Mar Superstar's album Best Summer Ever was born. Best Summer Ever, since its inception, has been imagined as a "Greatest Hits of Har Mar Superstar from 1950-1985." Tillmann was born in 1978. Wrap your head around that, please. Best Summer Ever is a slow burner with many ballads, dance-able tracks, and co-writes. Long- time friend Julian Casablancas (Cult Records founder, The Strokes), Shawn Everett (Alabama Shakes, Erykah Badu, Voidz, Weezer), and Tillmann worked very closely to make the concept happen. Reptaliens at Mississippi Studios

Bambi and Cole met on a basketball court, filming a music video for a band that didn?t have any music. After dating for six months, the two married under a blanket of smoke from the season?s forest fires.

Reptaliens quickly evolved from a conceptual collage of ideas into the bedroom recording project for the duo, captured with analog synthesizers, electric guitars, and melodic bass lines, and tape delayed vocals telling stories of science fiction, obsession, and transhumanism.

As long time, active participants in the Portland music scene, Bambi and Cole call on a number of talented musicians to guest on songs throughout the entirety of Reptaliens? recordings and live performances.
