After several years as a headlining house team at The PIT, Gypsy Danger is bringing their unique brand of improv to The Tank! Based on a suggestion from the audience, and utilizing the tropes and cliches of Hollywood classics new and old, Gypsy Danger will improvise a never-before-seen movie. Gypsy Danger is Nick Carrillo, Joanna Shaw Flamm, Katie Hartman, Devin Heater, Ben Jaeger-Thomas, Evan Kaufman, Mitch Lucas, Sarah Peele, and Claire Yale.

The Brooklyn Generator comes to The Tank! Now in its 6th Season, we are excited to bring our new play generation project to The Tank.

The Brooklyn Generator is the creation of Erin Mallon and Bixby Elliot. Originally started by Erin when she began making plays back in 2010 with a rotating group of 6 playwrights and 12 actors who gathered once a month on a Friday night to create six 10-minute plays in less than two days. Erin continued this way for 2 years and they collectively wrote about 140 short plays. Then, after a hiatus, Bixby and Erin put their heads together and asked each other "how can we adapt this model to support the creation of full-length plays?"

Cut to June 2014 when they re-launched The Brooklyn Generator with six great playwrights. The Generator supports each other over a six month period during which each playwright takes a turn being "Playwright-of-the-Month," bringing actors and directors to the table to create brand new full-length plays in less than 30 days. Six seasons later they are still going strong.

Manufacturing Mischief, the New York premiere of a satirical play by Pedro Reyes that features puppet characters based on Noam Chomsky, Karl Marx, Ayn Rand, Elon Musk and Tiny Trump. The work was conceived as part of Reyes residency as the inaugural Dasha Zhukova Distinguished Visiting Artist at the MIT Center for Art, Science & Technology.
It deals with issues of technology, ideology and the current political climate from a critical perspective, while also serving as entertainment and speaking both to scholars and a broader audience alike.
The plot centers around two MIT students who are planning a birthday surprise for MIT Professor Emeritus Noam Chomksy, using a new form of artificial intelligence called the Print-A-Friend. After they insert a book, out pops the author Karl Marx, bringing one of Chomskys heroes, back to life. Through a series of mishaps, Ayn Rand and Tiny Trump also appear and wreak havoc on the party. Hoping to make amends for a gift gone haywire, the students try to enlist the help of Elon Musk, but encounter his robot surrogate instead. In the end, they are left to grapple with the unintended consequences of their technological innovation.

Using comedy to address political discourse and the dilemmas that artificial intelligence and late capitalism pose, the play serves as a critique of new technologies for automation, such as self-driving cars and robots that replace humans in the workforce, as well as the class conflicts that ensue when technology eliminates jobs.

ABOUT PEDRO REYES
Pedro Reyes is a widely celebrated multi-platform artist, activist and educator based in Mexico City. He uses all aspects of visual art and education to address political and social issues. One of his main commitments is using the arts to reduce gun violence. In 2008, Reyes commenced Palas por Pistolas. The program collected over 1,527 guns donated from Mexican citizens, melted them down into 1,527 shovels, and then gave them to various schools and art institutions, which in turn used them to plant 1,527 trees. The program's success garnered attention from the Mexican government, which donated 6,700 weapons that Reyes converted into musical instruments. As part of this pacifist effort, he created Amendment to the Amendment, a traveling workshop where US citizens take part in a rewrite of the Second Amendment. Last year, he was one of 13 artists included in the Ford Foundations The Art of Change fellowship program. His work Doomocracy was presented by Creative Time at the Brooklyn Army Terminal in 2016.

?An appetite for the unknown" - Daniel Lanois

No collaboration is unlikely when the end goals are the same. A meeting of two artists who illustrate different corners of the musical landscape, come together to create a new statement that takes their collective strengths to higher elevations and encompasses new terrains.

So it is on the first collaborative journey of Canadian musicians Venetian Snares and Daniel Lanois. What started as mutual respect for one another?s work, led to several years of a creative germination resulting in an eight-track full-length exploration released May 4th on Timesig/Planet Mu.

The path began in 2014, after Lanois reached out to Venetian Snares (Aaron Funk) as a fan of his work. The project started to take root in Summer of 2016, after Funk hung around Toronto between shows. Taking his gear to Lanois? studio, the two began to play for the first time together in what would prove to be a formative moment in their creative journey together.

?I love making music with Dan, he has a real understanding of how to create a world and build what may exist within that world. Bassdrums are trombones and they are a colossal whale which floats on clouds of leaves speaking to the blast furnace feeding the mammoth. Recorded live in a former Buddhist temple-turned-studio in Toronto, 'Venetian Snares x Daniel Lanois' travels to new zones in what Lanois describes as ?a body of work driven by exploration?. Like all the best collaborations, it's brought something new out of both musicians. Equipped with their production acuity, they let their natural workflow guide them through uncharted waters. Funk laid the groundwork with drums while Lanois rode the pedal steel, weaving their sounds together in a new sonic tapestry. The two ultimately landed at their destination, their work ready to be shared with those willing to explore.

Inspired by a destructive and loss-heavy apartment fire in June of 2016, the Hats have cleaned up, streamlined and will be self-releasing their first full-length record since 2014 this Fall. Surprisingly, the band, who continue to live together, see the fire as something of a blessing, offering a chance to start fresh with a focus on the more important aspects of their music. The album will be the first to be released as The Hats. It will feature deeper, more eclectic lyrical subjects, and more intricate arrangements from singer/songwriter, Patrik Gochez, as well as the lead vocals of keyboardist, Brittany Laine, and lead guitarist, Joey Pierog. Original members, bassist Brenden Harisiades, and drummer, Bobby Rice, offer a rhythm section more solid and creative than ever before.

Originally established as ?Pat & the Hats? in 2012 to support the release of Gochez? chamber-pop debut, Heavy Loader, the band released both a full-length record (Fake it till You Make a Hit 2014) and a follow up EP (Pat & the Hats 2016). They quickly became a regionally recognized name receiving a New England Music Award for ?Best Pop Act? in 2014, a nomination in the same category in 2015, and accolades from regional press outlets in NH, MA, VT and beyond. ?The band has a polyglot of influences, from late ?70s punk-pop to more modern acts like the Flaming Lips, all rooted in classic sensibility? (M. Witthaus The Hippo Press).? The diversity in the indie/pop-rock band?s sound nudged them into a variety of showcases and festivals, sharing bills with Lucius, Lake Street Dive, and the late Charles Bradley. 2018 holds no lack of momentum for the freshly rebranded Hats, as they prepare for the release of their next full-length album.

C F Kip Winger, the multi-platinum recording artist, may be known best for his success with Winger and his early days as a bass player with Alice Cooper. However the range and scope of his musical journey can be more fully experienced in his solo albums, This Conversation seems like a Dream, Songs from the Ocean Floor ,From the Moon to the Sun and his most recent composition Ghosts, for string orchestra. piano and harp.

In 1995, after his hugely successful run with Winger, Kip built a studio in the hills of Santa Fe, New Mexico and started writing and producing music without limits. ?It was incredibly freeing to connect to music without any preconceived ideas about what it needed to be or what niche it needed to fill.? It is in Kip?s solo work that he has been able to exercise the breadth of his talents as a composer. London?s Classic Rock Magazine called him ?one of the most gifted composers and arrangers in the rock genre? and praised his ?compulsion to experiment.?

Over the years Kip has continued to pursue his interest in composition. He patterned his course of study after the intensive one-on-one relationships favored by many composers He sought out such masters as Edgar Grana, who holds a Masters from Juilliard, and currently teaches composition at the School of Visual Arts in New York City; University of New Mexico Professor of Theory and Composition, Richard Hermann; and Professor Michael Kurek from the Blair School of Music at Vanderbilt University. Professor Kurek has praised him for his ?great ear and innate musical sensitivity? resulting in ?beautifully crafted phrases and nuance.?

Aside from his powerful solo acoustic shows and touring with Winger, Kip was the lead singer for the Alan parsons live project. He has performed or recorded with the likes of Alice Cooper, Mark Farner, Roger Daltrey, and Neal Schon, and Bob Dylan.

One of the most misunderstood Hard Rock bands to emerge from the 1980?s returned in 2014 with their highly anticipated sixth studio album ?Better Days Comin?. Comprised of original members Kip Winger on vocals/bass, Reb Beach on guitar, Rod Morgenstein on drums, plus long-term guitarist John Roth, Winger followed up on the success of previous album ?Karma? and showcased an album that features some of their best work to date.

Winger formed in 1987 and soared to immediate success with their 1988 self-titled release. The album spawned the hit singles ?Seventeen? and ?Headed For A Heartbreak? and achieved platinum sales status. Winger also stayed on the Billboard Top 200 chart for over 60 weeks where it peaked at #21. Their next album, ?In The Heart Of The Young?, also achieved platinum status and contained the singles ?Can?t Get Enuff? and ?Miles Away?. The change in musical climate of the mid-90?s led the band to go on hiatus in 1994. In 2001, the band reunited and have not looked back since. Winger has made a name for themselves with relentless touring, while winning back fans and critics alike because of their exceptional musicianship, Kip Winger?s powerful vocals and the band?s incredible songwriting.
