Completely fried 7-piece garage punk band of theremin-wielding psychopaths half originating from the flat salt bush plains of Deniliquin and the other from the sea-stained Anglesea coastline, brought together through a share house in Melbourne and a mutual love of Pavement, Thee Oh Sees and Nuggets.

They released their debut EP "Willoughby's Beach" on a limited run of 10" vinyl in October 2011. The first single "Black Tooth" pricked the ears of Triple J's Dom Alessio, who dubbed the band : "a tour de force of reverberated rock'n'roll."

The band soon gained a devoted and at times visceral Melbourne following ? selling out several residencies and their debut EP launch at the Tote Hotel. In the following weeks King Gizzard were nominated for Best New Talent at The Age's EG Awards alongside Kimbra, Lanie Lane, Royal Headache and Husky.

2012 began with Gizzard being officially "unearthed" by Triple J, winning a spot at the Melbourne Big Day Out. They also landed a tour with US musician Girl Talk performing sold out shows at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney and Palace Theatre in Melbourne. A huge 2012/13 summer ensued with appearances at Falls Music and Arts Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, Cherry Rock and a national tour with Jeff The Brotherhood.

Plum is Wand?s fourth LP since the band formed in late 2013 but their first new album in two years. After a whirlwind initial phase of writing, recording, and touring at a frenetic clip, their newest document marks a period of relative patience; a refocusing and a push toward a new democratization of both process and musical surface.

In late winter of 2016, the band expanded their core membership of Evan Burrows, Cory Hanson, and Lee Landey to include two new members?Robbie Cody on guitar and Sofia Arreguin on keys and vocals. From the outset, the new ensemble moved naturally toward a changed working method, as they learned how to listen to each other and trust in this new format. The songwriting process was consciously relocated to the practice space, where for several months, the band spent hours a day freely improvising, while recording as much of the activity as they could manage. Previously, Wand songs had generally been brought to the group setting substantially formed by singer and guitarist Cory Hanson; now seedling songs were harvested from a growing cloudbank of archived material, then fleshed out and negotiated collectively as the band shifted rhythmically between the permissive space of jamming and the obsessive space of critique.

This new process demanded more honest communication, more vulnerability, better boundaries, more mercy and persistence during a year that meanwhile delivered a heaping serving of romantic, familial and political heartbreak for everyone involved. They learned more about their instruments and their perceived limitations. Much else fell apart in their personal lives, in their bodies, and the bodies of those near to them. In this way, Plum lengthened like a shadow underneath a dusking Orange; or rather ?Weird Orange,? an affectionate name given to the color of a roulette-chosen, tour-rushed batch of Golem vinyl?an idiom, an inside joke, a talisman, a bookmark, a mood ring. And meanwhile all the shifting weather, the wireless signals, the helicopters overhead. Weird orange softened, darkened delicately, and rouged itself to a Plum.

The music of Plum focuses teeming, dense, at times wildly multichromatic sounds into Wand?s most deliberate statement to date, with a long evening?s shadow of loss and longing hovering above the proceedings. Plum delicately locates the band?s tangent of escape from the warm and comfortable shallows of genre anachronism, an eyes-closed, mouth-open leap toward a more free-associative and contemporary pastiche logic of that more honestly reflects the ravenous musical omnivorousness of the five people who wrote and played it.

Revolutionary music may seem hard to come by in these days and times. Long gone is the era of artists like Bob Marley, The Clash, Stevie Wonder and Patti Smith getting airplay and bringing their messages to the masses. But that doesn?t mean that the revolution isn?t still brewing in the hearts and minds of many people around the globe.

Meet Mike Love. One of reggae music?s rising stars. Born and raised in Oahu, Hawaii to a musical family that spans generations, Mike Love brings a multitude of influences to the table, all tied together by the common goal of making the world a better place.

Which is no mean feat. On his debut album, The Change I?m Seeking, Love harkens the legends of roots reggae in both his lyrics and his sound, but never relies on any one genre to hold him down. Coming from a wealth of influences ? he started out playing classical piano as a teenager and later would perform in high school bands that were more akin to the grunge sounds of Soundgarden and Pearl Jam ? Mike Love fuses the simple rhythms of classic reggae with the complex changes of the classical and rock music he was first trained on to come up with a style wholly unique to him. Mike is currently wrapping up his second album titled Love Will Find A Way.

But it?s his message, his passion, the wisdom behind his words that truly resonate with his fans. ?It?s always been about the depth,? Mike Love explains, ?I?ve never been into music that was shallow. I?m still learning. I?m still learning about where I?m going and where I want to be. All the music is a learning tool to me too. I just make myself open to it. All the messages that come through the music, it?s not just coming through me and my wisdom, because I don?t think I?m that wise of a person. I don?t think I?m some wise elder or anything like that. I just make myself open to the music and it just comes through. To me it?s just as much of a teaching for me as it is for anyone who is listening to it and is open to it.?

His songs take you on a journey, one of healing and inspiration. One designed to help you on your path to knowledge, wisdom and understanding. On ?Permanent Holiday? he takes you on a lyrical quest for freedom, both his and yours. He laments the ills of the world but also discusses solutions and ideas to change them.

Since 1998, the Western swing-gypsy jazz trio Hot Club of Cowtown has traveled the world bringing their own brand of magical musical chemistry to audiences far and wide. Along with Elana James, guitarist Whit Smith and bassist Jake Erwin are equal partners in this original marriage of gypsy-jazz-inspired by the music of Django Reinhardt ? which accounts for the ?Hot Club? portion of their name ? with the hoedowns, traditional tunes, and Western swing-inspired music of Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys, represented in the ?Cowtown? of their name. They have created a legacy of the preservation of musical traditions that have often been overlooked by the mainstream and alternative music worlds. Even Americana and roots enthusiasts have only scratched surface of the multitude of musicians, past and present, who continue to inspire the Hot Club of Cowtown.


?This music may be more prevalent now than fifteen years ago,? says James. ?I don?t think as much of this was going on when we first got together?the seamless blending of Western swing tunes and hot jazz standards a la Django Reinhardt and Stephane Grapelli.? While the merging of gypsy jazz with Western swing sounds natural when listening to Hot Club of Cowtown, in the beginning the fusion of the two styles seemed more unorthodox than it does now. ?We just have always listened to old recordings and get inspired by that endless trove of astonishing performances. Mixing these genres together has always just been such a natural fit. Over the years other ?hot club? bands come and go but I guess generally we may be the most visible touring Western swing power trio out there.?

The band has a long list of accomplishments since their first album, Swingin? Stampede, first appeared in 1998 on HighTone records. Most notably, they are marking their 20th anniversary during the 2017-2018 touring season. They have released nine studio albums and they are among the youngest members ever to have been inducted inot the Texas Western Swing Hall of Fame. A considerable accomplishment for a band that have migrated their way from New England and the Midwest by way of New York City. They have most recently been named Western Swing Group of the year in 2015 at the Ameripolitan Music Awards (a new genre created by Dale Watson to recognize roots-influenced bands). In 2015 James won for Western Swing Female as well. The band has also represented the U.S. State Department as Musical Ambassadors over the past several years to places as diverse as Azerbaijan, Algeria, Armenia, the Republic of Georgia, and the Sultanate of Oman. Their festival appearances have been as diverse as they?ve been numerous including jazz, bluegrass and country festivals throughout the UK, Europe, Japan, Australia and North America.

In 2004 the Hot Club of Cowtown gained a special fan in Bob Dylan when they were invited to open a month-long tour of minor leaue ballparks with Dylan and Willie Nelson. James sat in with Dylan?s band often on that tour and the following year James was hired to play briefly in Dylan?s touring band ? the first dedicated female instrumentalist to join his road band since Scarlet Rivera some 30 years before.

Hot Club has maintained an on-again, off-again relationship over the years, which appears to be more about career choices than personal differences. When asked about the brief times the band has not been touring or recording, James says, ?It?s like Brokeback Mountain ? ?I just can?t quit you!?? she laughs. ?Some bands are maybe more studio bands, or other bands are really more about songwriting. We came together as instrumentalists who love to jam and play, and we really are at our very best as a live band. To me it?s as almost as though the instruments have gathered us together to sing and play their music. Like the songs conjure us and we gather together and deliver them.?


Indeed, when seeing the trio perform, hearing them on studio or live records, there is a sense of something beyond them individually?and beyond their years?taking over through this music that has lasted through the years. ?At the end of the day, it?s fun to get up on stage when you?re with your A game,? James says. ?If you don?t have a great show, great people up on stage together who you believe in, it?s hard to get up on stage. To do this thing we are truly thrilled by, as a band together, this is what makes us go. That there is a demand for us, for this little Western swing trio, to continue to tour, play, record, travel, it truly is a great gift. We?ve been together a long time and continue to share something unique and mysterious that continues to develop. As the saying goes, the harder you work, the luckier you get. For me it?s like this magical tree that we nurture and feed and in return it gives us shade, fruit and joy over the years.?

Pianos Become The Teeth have never been the kind of band who are easy to distill into a simple soundbite and that?s more evident than ever on the band's fourth full-length Wait For Love, an album that sees the Baltimore-based act reconciling their aggressive past with the atmospheric turns of 2014's Keep You. The result is a collection of songs that eschews stylistic traps in order to focus on songwriting and feels like a full-realization of what the band have only hinted at in the past. The players?vocalist Kyle Durfey, guitarists Mike York and Chad McDonald, bassist Zac Sewell and drummer David Haik?may be the same this time around but their lives have continued to unravel and that journey lies at the emotional core of Wait For Love, which is a creative collaboration in the truest sense of the term.

?For Wait For Love my goal was just to write really interesting songs that pushed us forward as a band and allowed us to do something different than we had ever done in the past,? York explains. In order to get out of their comfort zone, the group isolated themselves in a cabin on the Eastern Shore of Maryland for extended writing excursions and ended up with a windfall of 30 songs by the time they entered the studio. Although Durfey?whose wife had recently had a child?was absent at some of these sessions, ultimately that event allowed the vocalist to approach Wait For Love from a different perspective. ?I had so much more time to sit and ponder these songs and how I wanted to approach them,? he recalls. ?I think that changed by approach to vocals because it wasn't this immediate thing, it was more thought out.?

In order to capture their vision the group once again joined forces with Keep You's producer Will Yip (Title Fight, Circa Survive) who acted like a sixth member when it came to shaping these songs. ?Working with Will made us a better band as a whole because I think it helped us refine who we are and think about how to approach this record in a different way than we would have on our own,? York explains. That isn't to say that Wait For Love didn't have its share of setbacks?mainly the fact that Haik experienced a mysterious back injury a few days into the recording session?but even those unexpected events ultimately contributed to the overall sound of the album. ?I think a goal of both of us and Will was to write solid songs and not be afraid of being catchy while still sounding like Pianos Become The Teeth,? Durfey explains.

Correspondingly the album opens with ?Fake Lightning,? a transcendent musical meditation that pairs ambient guitars with impassioned vocals and Haik's driving drumming. Seamlessly that song gives way to ?Charisma,? which features fuzzed-out bass and melodies that hang in the air long after the moment has passed. ?I really wanted this to be an album where things weren't neatly defined and there were moments where you couldn't tell what was a guitar and what was a keyboard or sample,? York explains. This is exemplified on ?Bitter Red? a song that's cinematic in scope yet nuanced enough to fit perfectly in the band?s catalog. In a similar spirit, Durfey's lyrics are still just as poetic but see him shifting his perspective from the loss of his father to what it feels like to be one himself.

?This album all ties into the idea of love and how love comes to you during different times in life in good and bad ways,? Durfey explains, adding that it was refreshing to further stretch out stylistically on this record after he transitioned from screaming to singing on Keep You. ?To me this everything on this record is incredibly personal and as specific as it has been on every record but it's not solely based on one specific figure the way it has been in the past and I'm happy about that,? Durfey explains. That said, those familiar concepts of loss are present on the album's closing song ?Blue,? which approaches the topic from a more hopeful perspective as a new father imagines the endless ways his own son's life will play out.

Pianos Become The Teeth could have easily remade a screamo-inspired album reminiscent of 2009's Old Pride or 2011's The Lack Long After and no one would fault them for it. But Wait For Love is a rare example of a band still discovering their sound over a decade into their career, a fact that?s present in every note of this expansive album. From the haunting ?Dry Spells? to the experimentally minded ?Bay Of Dreams,? there are moments on Wait For Love that are so dreamy they?re otherworldly, whether the catalyst is a sample or a single note. ?This album has some of our most interesting guitar work but also some of the most pulled back ideas of what the record should be,? York adds.

?I think we all made an effort to be open to things and see what came out especially in the studio with this album, ?Durfey summarizes when asked about the ambitious nature of Wait For Love. ?When you've been playing music together for as long as we have it's easy to get in a rut,? he continues. ?Wait For Love still sounds like us but there are different kinds of songs here and I don't think that would have happened if it weren't for making records like Keep You and being open to pushing forward into that uncharted territory. I?m just really excited for people to have their own experience with the album.?

The World is a Beautiful Place & I am No Longer Afraid to Die have announced the forthcoming release of their third full-length, Always Foreign. Due out September 29 on Epitaph Records, Always Foreign follows the Connecticut-bred collective?s acclaimed 2015 album Harmlessness.

Produced by TWIABP guitarist Christopher Teti, Always Foreign confronts everything from the opioid epidemic to xenophobia to emotional abuse in relationships. Throughout the album, TWIABP match their sprawling arrangements and layered lyricism with a raw emotionality.

?When we started writing we were fresh off Trump being elected, so there?s an anger to the album that?s different from what we?ve done in the past,? says TWIABP vocalist David F Bello. ?There?s a lot more resistance thinking throughout the songs?not in a way that?s strictly anti-Trump, but also addressing things like white supremacy and controlling elements of the state.?

Along with Bello, Cyr, and Teti, the TWIABP lineup includes Tyler Bussey (guitar, banjo, synth, vocals), Dylan Balliett (guitar, vocals), Katie Dvorak (synth, vocals), and Steven K Buttery (percussion, vocals). Formed in Connecticut in 2009, TWIABP made their full-length debut with Whenever, If Ever (a 2013 release hailed as ?revolutionary? by Pitchfork) and later delivered Harmlessness (praised as ?bold and complex and dazzling? by Noisey and ?grandiose and dramatic? by NPR).

Marc Broussard is an artist with a unique gift of channeling the spirits of classic R&B, rock and soul into contemporary terms. This gift has been a matter of common knowledge since 2002, when Broussard released his debut album, Momentary Setback, which he recorded and released independently at age 20. It was no secret before then, going back to those lucky witnesses who heard him belt "Johnny B. Goode" onstage at age 5 while sitting in with his father's band. Throughout his life, Broussard has been tapped as a talent to watch.

Marc?s song ?Home? was successful at radio and catapulted him onto the national touring stage. His music has been placed in many TV shows and movies. The timeless, soulful nature of Marc?s vocal lends well to Film and TV, and will continue to do so for years to come.

Crafting catchy folk/pop melodies with meaningful lyrics, Sean Magwire has forged a unique brand of songwriting. A native of Angola, Indiana, Sean grew up listening to The Beatles on an old tape deck before learning guitar at age 15. He has spent the past five years in Chicago, most recently forming the award-winning folk band, The Lulabelles. As a member of The Lulabelles, his song "Between the Cracks" won the 2015 John Lennon Songwriting Contest Grand Prize for Folk.

Biography
The Forest Room is the solo project by Matt Streit which began in 2004 as a casual musical outlet outside of his main band. An active musician from Milford, CT for many years, mainly as a bass player in heavy metal and rock bands, Matt takes a completely different approach with the Forest Room by writing most of the music on acoustic guitar, utilizing multiple layers of guitar parts with live record looping, and incorporating produced beats. Matt uses several guitar effects pedals and a stage lighting rig that he built himself. The Forest Room combines influences and elements of instrumental, folk, ambient, hiphop, and triphop music. "Portishead, Tycho, and Bonobo are a few influences of mine.

In 2017 I started regularly attending Quaker meetings for worship, I spent a lot of time in therapy, and I started microdosing psychedelics. I had asked the band I?d hired to play on my last album Away to be my new band, the new version of Okkervil River, and we?d gone on a long tour of America and Europe that was my favorite touring experience I?ve had since 2003. In some ways, I felt like a kid again. I realized how phenomenally lucky I am that I?ve been able to play music for this long.

The election happened while we were in Brussels, on a rainy horrible morning. Crossing over into England later that day, I met a border guard who had worked at the Berlin wall on the night that crowds of East Germans showed up wanting to cross over, when someone on his side had to make a judgment call to open fire or to let everyone through. He told me the story, trying to make me feel better, and I couldn?t help crying in front of him. He looked at me sadly, like a nice dad wearing a police uniform.

The new band had a recording date booked to work on songs while we were still tight from tour, and I had some material prepared but I wanted to write more. And if December 2016 was good for anything it was good for writing new songs. I wrote ?The Dream and the Light? at a vacation home adjoining Frank Sinatra?s old place in Palm Springs; a friend?s father had died and she was treating herself and his nurse to a vacation and invited some friends along. Then I went to the Away cabin and wrote more new songs. We hit the studio and recorded about ten songs in three days, everybody playing together in the room and me singing vocals live. ?The Dream and the Light,? ?How It Is,? ?External Actor? and ?Pulled Up the Ribbon? were recorded during those sessions, as was ?Famous Tracheotomies,? an autobiographical song about a lengthy hospitalization I experienced as a little kid.

I had intended the new songs to continue in the exact sonic vein of Away, but almost immediately they started to diverge somewhat wildly. The sound was more electric and playful ? it was a happy sound, because I was happier than I?d been in years. I decided to keep going in that direction.

I scheduled another recording session for a couple months later and I went back upstate to write more songs in the dead of winter, snowed in, no way to get to town. And then I got back to Brooklyn I started writing songs with members of my band. I?ve never done that before, written with the band. I love this band. We added another nine songs and recorded those, including ?Family Song,? ?Shelter Song? and ?Human Being Song.?

On a little tour through the South I decided I wanted to write one last song, something upbeat and catchy. So we gathered together in my hotel room in Charleston, West Virginia the morning after a radio performance and wrote ?Love Somebody? quickly before they kicked us out of the room. We hit the road and were immediately held up in traffic diverted for the motorcade from that disgusting Boy Scouts speech.

I kept working on all the tracks until some of them started sounding more finished than others and I had enough finished-sounding ones to put a record out. I wanted to put it out quickly. It?s so much more fun that way, and this record is supposed to be fun, and to hopefully make people feel happy.

When I gave these songs to Shawn Everett to mix, he saw something even further in it than I saw and he made all the tracks sing. His production reminds me of my favorite experiences of recording Black Sheep Boy and The Stage Names with the brilliant Brian Beattie, who taught me more about music than anyone I've ever met. But Shawn also brought this new energy to it that elevated it and took it in a direction I hadn?t quite known it was pointing in. It was so great hearing the mixes coming back, hearing the whole thing in full, one year of my life condensed into 50 minutes. I was thrilled.

When the album was finished, I moved out of New York City.

He earned his second Emmy Nomination in 2011 for his work with the writers of CONAN (TBS) and he wrote for Conan O?Brien when he hosted the 2013 WhiteHouse Correspondents Dinner. Most recently, Deon received a 2017 NAACP Image Award Nomination for ?Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series? for his work on Black-ish and was featured as a presenter at the 2017 BET Awards.

In June 2016, Deon?s first hour standup special Cole Blooded Seminar premiered on Comedy Central. His half hour special premiered on Netflix?s The Standups on July 4th, 2017. On the big screen, Deon was seen in all three movies in the wildly popular Barbershop feature film franchise, and he will appear alongside Sofía Vergara, Alysia Reiner, and Chris D?Elia in the feature The Female Brain directed by Whitney Cummings.
