Brazilian Jazz / Bossa Nova

Luciano's performance takes the audience on a tour of Brazil by presenting a wide variety of Brazilian compositions combined with his own originals. In his Performance Luciano contrasts songs that have rich and complex harmonies and melodies with simple rhythms against songs that have simple harmonies and melodies with very complex rhythms, and the dynamics range from pure solo guitar and voice to the full sound of the rich Brazilian percussion in a fascinating musical way. Luciano released two albums of original music "Vida De Artista - An Artist's Life" in 2011 and ?Sem Palavras ? Without Words? in 2015 . Make no mistake; Luciano has placed his stamp on the Brazilian music scene in Chicago.

Short Bio:

Luciano was born into a musical family on January 3, 1969 in rural Iretama, Parana, Brazil?s southern region. From this melodiously rich environment, he learned first how to sing with his mom, Luiza Maria. He further developed his vocal abilities through his maternal grandparents, who performed for local live radio shows and paternal grandparents, who harmonized beautifully. By age 14, he took the violão (acoustic guitar) as a self taught instrument, focusing his repertoire on Brazilian Folk and Bossa Nova (Brazilian Jazz). He continued his pursuit of technical development through the study of classical guitar at the age of 17, attending several guitar symposiums, work shops and master classes under one of Brazil?s most respected professors, Henrique Pinto. Luciano?s music journey next led him to the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) where he received a bachelor?s degree in music performance. While at UMKC full-time, he was invited to join Chicago Samba (a Chicago based Brazilian music group) and commuted weekly between Kansas City and Chicago to make ends meet. After successfully completing his education at UMKC, he relocated to Chicago where he has since established himself as a performing artist. Luciano has collaborated with many great fellow artists: playing acoustic guitar on John Goldman?s ?For All the People?, vocals on Matt Geraghty?s ?Mozaic?, arranging/co-producing, and performing on the recent release ?Samba Mundo? by St. Louis based Samba Bom, serving as lead vocalist and guitarist with the Evanston Orquestra de Samba which connects classical music with Brazilian rhythms and harmonies, and performing throughout the Chicago Jazz scene as a soloist. Other engagements include opening performances for Caetano Veloso, Vinicius Cantuaria, Virginia Rodrigues, performances for the Chicago Mayor?s Office of Special Events, The Democratic Convention of 2004, Jakarta Internacional Jazz Festival in 2007, Bright Future International Festival in Sochi, Russia in 2013, and several commercial releases throughout the Mid-west. Luciano released in 2011 "Vida de Arista - An Artist's Life" an album of original music, and his most recent accomplishments are: the release of his second album of original music "Sem Palavras - Without Words", and tours in Italy and China. Luciano also plays classical guitar for weddings, churches, social events and private functions.

The British Invasion was a Pop culture phenomena between 1964-1965 when musical groups from the UK, following the Beatles over to the USA, started selling lots of records. But to those who lived here it was much more than that. Because the sophisticated style, the clothes, the accents and yes the music was bold and different and exotically foreign! Dave Steffen, Jay Groeppner and the Class of 68 capture the essence of a time when British rock groups dominated the airwaves here at home! The Dave Clark 5, Billy J Kramer & The Dakotas, The Kinks in their Edwardian suit coats, The Animals and so many more changed what Americans listened to and how we thought, dressed and lived!

The Ravines are a high octane funk and rock machine. Pulling from some of the best bands and studio musicians over the last 20 years, The Ravines got together for the sheer joy of playing music. Having formed in mid 2017, people have been rejoicing at the infectious grooves they create exclaiming "this is the best band I have heard in years.? Judy Roberts Biography

The Chicago Tribune has awarded pianist/singer Judy Roberts the title "Chicago's Favorite Jazz Woman." Yet she is also recognized as a worldwide jazz star thanks to the success of her international recordings and concert performances. From the Midwest to Phoenix to Singapore, Judy is best known for her fun-loving approach to an eclectic and extensive repertoire, her hard-swinging piano playing, her ability to combine lush and sensitive vocals with rapid-fire scat singing, and for her unique ability to communicate with her audience in a relaxed and intimate style.

A multiple Grammy nominee, her twenty-plus album/CD releases include the "The Other World," whose hit single "Señor Blues" was number one on the jazz charts and in radio airplay; the album "Trio," with Ray Brown and Jeff Hamilton; the song "Twilight World," co-written with piano diva Marian McPartland (on whose NPR show "Piano Jazz" Judy has guested twice); and her international hit rendition of Dave Frishberg's "My Attorney Bernie."

In addition to club and concert appearances, Judy performs at such jazz festivals as the North Sea Fest in Holland, the Singapore Jazz Fest, the Chicago Jazz Festival, and is a regularly featured artist on the Joe Segal and the Jazz Cruise Line jazz cruises, as well as the Newport Beach and West Coast Jazz Parties.Judy is on the faculty of Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts, and is a featured columnist for the Chicago Jazz Magazine. She continues to perform and record in the Chicago area and around the world.

REBIRTH BRASS BAND
Whether seen on HBO?s Treme or at their legendary Tuesday night gig at The Maple Leaf, Grammy-winning Rebirth Brass Band is a true New Orleans institution. Formed in 1983 by the Frazier brothers, the band has evolved from playing the streets of the French Quarter to playing festivals and stages all over the world. While committed to upholding the tradition of brass bands, they have also extended themselves into the realms of funk and hip-hop to create their signature sound. ?Rebirth can be precise whenever it wants to,? says The New York Times, ?but it?s more like a party than a machine. It?s a working model of the New Orleans musical ethos: as long as everybody knows what they?re doing, anyone can cut loose.?

In the wake of the sometimes-stringent competition among New Orleans brass bands, Rebirth is the undisputed leader of the pack, and they show no signs of slowing down. Following the Grammy-winning Rebirth of New Orleans, Rebirth Brass Band is at it again with Move Your Body, an infectious, groove-laden collection of hip-shakers sure to saturate the dance floor. Rollicking originals like "Who's Rockin, Who's Rollin'"? and "Take 'Em to the Moon" reaffirm the band's position as head of the brass throne while the rasta-esque "On My Way" and leave-nothing-to-the-imagination lyrics of "HBNS" showcase the unit's talent for penning unabashed party starters.
