For over half a century, consummate guitarist Ry Cooder has shapeshifted his style from ?30s topical songs to Hawaiian slack key, Tex-Mex twang to Cuban jazz, Indian classical music to pop, bop, and rock. In the latter realm, his list of collaborators includes Captain Beefheart, Randy Newman, Little Feat, and even the Rolling Stones, playing on their seminal Let It Bleed record. Cooder draws apposite depth to each of his endeavors, like on his slide guitar soundtrack for Wim Wenders? 1984 indie paragon Paris, Texas, stunning for the profundity it achieves through its simplicity in evoking Southwestern desolation and windblown beauty. Cooder comes to the Flynn with his seven-piece band for an evening of career highlights. Opening the show?and joining the band?is Cooder?s son, Joachim Cooder, a multi-instrumentalist who adds a poppier sensibility to his father?s eclecticism.

Open up a magic toy box and discover what?s inside! Join zany characters in adventures to far-off places through the elements of creative play. In this longtime favorite camp, children use theater, dance, and the power of their imaginations to fill their own magic toy boxes with unforgettable experiences.

Ages 6-8

Run away with the circus! Campers create clown costumes and characters to design their own circus experience in this theatrical exploration of adventures that await audiences and performers under the big top. Mesmerize family and friends at week?s end when they join us in the center ring (the Flynn?s MainStage) for our spectacular show.

Ages 11-16

Join our dance crew to learn the latest moves and cutting-edge choreography in hip-hop, jazz, and street dance styles. We tackle the principles of creating spontaneous public performance and develop street dance choreography to stun an unsuspecting audience. After rehearsing, we perform live in the studio and in public flash mobs of our own creation. This program is an exhilarating confidence-builder.

Five years ago, the Flynn exhibited VSA Vermont?s Engage, a juried show that introduced the work of 35 visual artists with disabilities. FLOURISH continues this work in partnership once again with VSA Vermont as well as Vermont Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired. A statewide call garnered 46 submissions and 31 works in acrylic, oil, and watercolor; drawings in ink, pastel, crayon, and charcoal; photographs, ceramics, weaving, as well as mixed-media sculpture and assemblages were chosen by both new and established artists.

Join Alison in singing, dancing, playing drums, bells, shakers and triangles. Children learn, as they do best, from parents/caregivers who actively model enthusiastic participation. Join a community of families sharing songs, instrument play, rhythm chants, and movement activities in a relaxed, playful, non-performance-oriented setting.

Ages 11-16

Experience what it?s like to be in a music video! Learn what choices filmmakers make as they create a treatment (plan) and work on developing rockin? street dance choreography. Learn the principles of digital filmmaking and editing from a professional filmmaker and work on our dance moves with a professional choreographer. After rehearsing, we shoot on-location with a real music video creator. Participants get a digital link of their work to share with friends and family. Bonus: you?ll walk away with extra stage presence, extra confidence, and some extra cool moves.

Ages 6-8

Climb inside the tree house and get whisked away on the adventure of a lifetime. Based on Annie and Jack?s journeys in the popular children?s series, we take thrilling trips through time and space?on pirate ships, elephants? backs, through the Flynn MainStage theater, and on rockets to outer space. Encouraged to let their imaginations take flight, children use drama and movement to discover a new world every day.
