3rd Street Coffeehouse
305 Mountain Ave SW, Roanoke, VA, 24016
We welcome to our stage folk singer and songwriter Ian Fitzgerald. Based in New England, Ian has toured throughout the United States. He has independently released four albums of original material and has become known for his storytelling. In their review of his latest album, No Time To Be Tender [2013], Performer Magazine called Ian "a polished songsmith who is high atop a field of great artists breaking through to festival and folk concerts throughout the States." Ian has opened shows for Iris DeMent; Willy Mason and shared bills with many other top-shelf performers. Ian has also performed at a number of notable festivals and venues including: the 2016 and 2015 Newport Folk Festivals; 2014 All Newport's Eve (the official kickoff show for the 2014 Newport Folk Festival); NXNE; the Falcon Ridge Folk Festival Emerging Artist Showcase and many others. That is quite a resume! Check him out at http://ianfitzgerald.com/.
Opening for Ian will be singer/songwriter Bill Stanton. ?Professor Bill? (as we like to call him) has a long and impressive knowledge of the driving forces and people behind modern folk music and tells and sings his stories with the enthusiasm and color of one who has been there to witness much of it. Now retired from a career as a university professor at some of our nation?s top colleges, Bill uses his trusty 12 string to bring each story to life with masterful covers and original tunes that truly make for an interesting and entertaining combination of story and song.
Now in our 31st year, 3rd Street Coffeehouse is a non-profit listening room run by volunteers and never has a cover charge. We are alcohol free and smoke free and feature fresh bakery from Evie?s Wildflour Restaurant and Bakery in Roanoke with a great selection of regular and flavored coffees, teas and cold drinks. We are located in the basement of the historic Trinity United Methodist Church and our door faces Mountain Avenue. We pass the hat for our performers and 100% of the money collected goes to the performers. Doors open at 7:00 PM.
