Vintage Circus: A Student Showcase

Come one, come all! Come see the Vintage Circus: A Student Showcase. Lead by their fearless ringleader, the show will provide an evening of exciting and comedic entertainment for all ages. Nine students and three troop members will put on acts of nostalgic circus favorites, including a sassy monkey, a lonely stilt walker, shocking feats of strength and flexibility, live music, acrobatics, and high-flying performances on the silks, lyra, and trapeze. At intermission there will be a Photo Booth with circus props for anyone to enter the Instagram photo contest. The photo with the most likes wins a free month of aerial lessons!

Modern Dance Technique will present its 27th Annual Spring Celebration of Dance on June 15 and 16 at 7:30 pm. The repertoire contains both new dances and ones that have been developed during 27 years of MDT. The works are varied, inspiring and entertaining; reflecting a combination of classic modern dance with innovative contemporary movement.

By asking and answering questions about your writing projects, you will learn: what?s working, what needs clarification, and the tricks and techniques of famous writers. Many works critiqued in this class are now published award-winners.

Lill Ahrens is a Calyx editor, creative writing instructor and consulting editor with many award-winning published students and clients. Her own award-winning stories are published in numerous literary journals and anthologies, including Best Women?s Travel Writing (Travelers Tales).

Mathias is an American writer whose deceased father has bequeathed him a large Parisian apartment overlooking the Luxembourg Gardens. The inheritance has arrived just in time as Mathias doesn?t even have enough money to purchase an airline ticket home. He plans to sell the building to a French developer and return to the States a rich man. Unfortunately, the apartment is occupied by a woman, Mathilde, in her 90?s and her daughter. The mother sold the apartment to Mathias? father under a French law that allows her to live there until she dies plus she gets her expenses paid by the owner. My Old Lady is a charming character study about the relationships Mathias makes with Mathilde and her peculiarly vocal daughter Chloe. His father was not a good parent and Mathias blames him for decades of misfortune. Is it possible dad had some humane reason for wanting his son and these women to meet up?

The play was made into a 2014 movie starring Kevin Kline and Maggie Smith in the lead roles.
