Working in small and large group settings, the Trad Jazz Workshop focuses on music from the New Orleans tradition made popular by artists such as Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Sidney Bechet and Bix Beiderbecke. The Trad Jazz Workshop will be a fun and exciting exploration of the music of ragtime, early swing, hot jazz, and more. Students in this workshop will perform an end-of-week concert on June 14th at 730pm at The Nash. Open to all ages and experience levels.

Explores Bebop music made popular by artists such as Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Kenny Clarke, Barry Harris and more. Taught by Arizona State?s Director of Jazz Studies, pianist, composer, and arranger Mike Kocour, the Bebop Workshop offers an intensive jazz experience for those wishing to explore improvisation, arranging techniques & ensemble performance. Developing bebop vocabulary and experience is essential for every developing jazz performer. Students in this workshop will perform an end-of-week concert on June 28th at 730pm at The Nash. Open to intermediate (3+ years in jazz) and advanced experience levels.

Greg Amerind, director of the Nash Vocal Ensemble, will help students in this workshop develop vocal techniques, collaborate with fellow musicians, and create their individual stage presence and style. In addition, vocalists will learn how to blend with other singers in a larger vocal ensemble. A community-based approach, drawing in performers from all walk of life, is a great way to experience making music in a large ensemble/choir-type setting. Students in this workshop will perform an end-of-week concert on July 12th at 730pm at The Nash. Open to all ages with 1+ years experience in jazz.

This workshop will focus on ways to playing in duo and trio settings with various types of instrumentation. Throughout the workshop players will learn different ways of performing, improvising, and interacting with smaller and non-traditional instrumentation. Musicians involved with this workshop will discover the value of not being limited by smaller numbers and instrumentation. Students in this workshop will perform an end-of-week concert on June 21st at 730pm at The Nash. Open to intermediate (3+ years in jazz) and advanced experience levels
