In 2017, punk rock pioneers, the Dead Boys, celebrate the 40th anniversary of their landmark first album Young, Loud and Snotty with a worldwide tour and special re-recording of the record.

Formed in Cleveland in 1976, the Dead Boys were one of the first American acts to combine the proto-punk fervor of bands like the Stooges and the New York Dolls with a new level of intense energy. Their 1977 debut LP was a pivotal album in the birth of hardcore punk and produced one of the first great punk anthems, ?Sonic Reducer." After one more album, the band split in 1979. They reunited for a few gigs in the 80s, but following the death of lead vocalist Stiv Bators in 1990, the band members went their separate ways except for two brief reunions in 2004 and 2005. The return of the Dead Boys began with guitarist Cheetah Chrome.

?I've had my solo band for the last ten years, and Dead Boys songs have always been included in my shows and over time the right mix of people came together to pull off and at times enhance the Dead Boys sound. With the 40th anniversary of the Dead Boys on the horizon and a solid band that could interpret and deliver the performance and sound needed to maintain the authenticity of the Dead Boys, I reached out to Johnny Blitz about an anniversary tour and he said 'yes' and we began the journey of what would become Still Snotty.

"When I was young, the artists that I really admired were the ones who always found a way to keep making music and expressing themselves," Matthew Sweet says on the occasion of the release of his 13th solo album Tomorrow's Daughter. "To me, those guys were the real artists, and I've tried to hold on to that attitude in my own work."

The seasoned singer/songwriter/producer/multi-instrumentalist is currently in the midst of a personal musical renaissance that's seen him produce some of the most compelling and ambitious music of his three-decade career. That description applies to Tomorrow's Daughter, on which such instantly memorable new tunes as "Belong," "Run Away," "Lady Frankenstein" and "Out of My Misery" demonstrate his uncanny ability to tap into a bottomless well of pop history to craft music that's effortlessly catchy yet deeply personal.

Tomorrow's Daughter?the follow-up to the artist's acclaimed 2017 set Tomorrow Forever?is a persuasive testament to the enduring qualities of Sweet's adventurous, emotion-charged songcraft. The new album's 12 songs abound with the punchy melodic sensibility, playful sonic experimentalism and introspective lyrical insight that have been constants in his expansive catalog.

Tomorrow's Daughter is the product of a burst of creative inspiration that followed Sweet's 2013 return to his native Nebraska, where he reestablished his Black Squirrel Submarine home studio. This period yielded 38 brilliant new songs, 17 of which appeared on Tomorrow Forever. It instantly became clear that this potent body of work merited a follow-up release, hence Tomorrow's Daughter.

"It just sort of became my next record," Sweet says of Tomorrow's
Daughter, which like its predecessor is released via his own Honeycomb Hideout imprint but this time distributed by MRI / Sony. Both albums feature Sweet's current touring band, comprised of guitarist Jason Victor (also a member of the recently-reformed Dream Syndicate) and his longtime rhythm section of bassist Paul Chastain and drummer Ric Menck (also known for their own acclaimed work with Velvet Crush).

"When I put together Tomorrow's Daughter out of what I'd recorded, the 12 songs totally made sense to me in sequence," Sweet explains. "I enlisted some of the people around me, friends and family, to listen to everything I'd recorded and pick their favorites, and everyone pretty much agreed on what was the top stuff. I think it stands up as a separate record, and as a time capsule of the time that we made it."

The distinctive musical and lyrical qualities that illuminate Tomorrow's Daughter have been hallmarks of Matthew Sweet's work since he began making music as a high school student in his native Lincoln, Nebraska. While attending the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia, he became active in that town's burgeoning underground music scene, as a member of the now-legendary indie combos Oh-OK and Buzz of Delight, and in collaborations with R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe and Chris Stamey of The dB's.

A demo recorded with producer Don Dixon led to solo deals with Columbia (which released Sweet's debut album Inside in 1986), A&M (1989's Earth) and finally Zoo, which issued his commercial and creative breakthrough Girlfriend in 1991. Girlfriend won raves from critics and established him with a wide international fan base that continues to support him today.

Sweet continued to reveal new layers of songwriting depth and sonic creativity on his subsequent efforts Altered Beast, the spin-off EP Son of Altered Beast, 100% Fun, Blue Sky on Mars and In Reverse. His musical gifts continued to shine into the new century with Kimi Ga Suki, Living Things, Sunshine Lies, Modern Art and the Under the Covers series, a threevolume collaboration with Susanna Hoffs of the Bangles (Sweet also served as producer of the Bangles' 2011 album Sweetheart of the Sun).

"I can barely even fathom it," Sweet says of his massive body of recorded work. "But here I am, so I try to live up to whatever it is I've established so far. To do the work is the really important thing to me, but knowing that I'm connecting with people makes me happy. I've continued touring pretty consistently, and it's nice to see that people still care enough to come out to the shows. There seems to be a real emotional attachment for them, which means a lot to me."

Sweet is in the midst of an especially productive period that's seen him continue to generate new material at a prolific pace. He's already recorded Wicked System of Things, a collection of new original songs to be released as a limited-edition vinyl LP in November 2018 for Black Friday Record Store Day, and is planning his next general-release album.

"I feel like I'm gonna be pretty active for awhile, and it's fun to be releasing a lot of music," he says. "I thought that there might be some resistance to putting out so much stuff, but that hasn't been the case, and that's encouraged me to keep going."

Now firmly ensconced, along with his wife, cats and vintage recording gear, in Nebraska after a two-decade-plus stretch in Los Angeles, Sweet works out of his home studio, which allows him to indulge his bottomless musical imagination, and to engage in long-distance collaborations with musicians in other locations?a method that he employed on both Tomorrow Forever and Tomorrow's Daughter.

"In some ways I think that moving has had a positive effect musically," he reflects. "I think it reconnected me a little bit to what it felt like when I was really young and music was new to me, and maybe that's reflected in the music. But it's hard to say, because making music is so internal for me that it's mostly in my head rather than my surroundings."

Meanwhile, Sweet's catalog continues to be a source of inspiration for longtime fans and new converts. For instance, the Intervention label is planning deluxe two-LP vinyl editions of Girlfriend, Altered Beast, Son of Altered Beast and 100% Fun, which will feature a wealth of rare and unreleased material. But it's creating new music that remains Matthew Sweet's main concern, and he continues to do so with renewed intensity.

"This feels like a really good time for me, and I feel lucky and grateful to still be doing what I love to do," Sweet asserts. "I feel like I'm in a totally positive place, and maybe moving has been a catalyst for that.

"When I meet young people and they ask for advice about a career in music, I always say, 'Do music because it's what you love to do, and because you'd do it no matter what happens,'" he concludes. "I've tried to keep that attitude about it, because that's always worked for me. I just try to keep doing my thing and keep believing."

Commenting on his difficult upbringing in Des Moines and residency in Chicago, McManus says, ?I grew up in an environment where aggression, violence, abuse, and addiction were always present. It made me a lot of things; angry, sad, and ashamed. I hated my story and I was a slave to addiction. I tried for so long to hide from the reality of my story and the reality of how beautiful life could be.? It wasn?t until an intense spiritual experience lead Drew to break his cycle of addiction. ?I had changed my entire outlook on everything? say McManus, ?I began to realize that had everything not happened to me exactly like it did, I would not be exactly who/where/what I am right now.? In an effort to share his revelation with others who may be in the same predicament, Drew began to write every day. ?I was flooded with the urge to write down the lessons that kept revealing themselves in this surrender. And the connections I began making with other people by making this music vulnerable and open, began to change everything.? When Christina Holmes sings, walls, barriers, and boundaries disappear. Finding a sweet spot in the middle of acoustic, folk, reggae, rock, and pop music, she represents the same values and vision on stage and off.

Between regular open mics around Rhode Island and dive bar gigs in New York City, she linked up with the charity Musicians On Call and performed for countless bedridden hospital patients. 2012 saw her take the stage for the world famous ?Amateur Night? at the Apollo and leave with a standing ovation. In 2014, she released her full-length debut Peace, Love, & C. Holmes and joined Trevor Hall for a sold-out North American tour over the course of 2015.

Launching her own label Cove House in 2017, she dove headfirst into her sophomore effort with producer Warren Huart [Colbie Caillat, James Blunt]. After only two-and-a-half weeks in a Los Angeles studio, she emerged with Stand Up. For the first time, a studio recording captured the prowess of the vocalist?s powerhouse presence on stage. The album was introduced via marathon of touring alongside the likes of Hall, Xavier Rudd, and Nahko & Medicine for the People.

Her live energy shines through the 2018 single ?Bring The People Together.? Driven by lithe acoustic guitar and simmering reggae grooves, it presents a concrete mission statement loud and clear. From the plaintive lyrical poetry and wind-swept soul of ?Let My Music Free Your Soul? to the clarion call of ?Stand Up,? her voice resounds with power and passion. However, the final track ?Always? tugs at the heartstrings the most. Written after the passing of her dad David Holmes, Sr., it incorporates the last voicemail he left Christina.

In the end, Christina has only just begun to bring people together.

Madison Pruitt is a seventeen year old singer and song writer from Oberlin, Ohio. Born to Theodore Pruitt and Dawn Hrnchar Pruitt, she is one of six children. Being home-schooled along with her siblings until her junior year of high-school gave her a lot of free time. She began to teach herself to play piano and guitar by ear, along with the help of YouTube, at the age of eleven. When Madison was thirteen she began to find influence in the band Nahko and Medicine for the People. After about a year of seriously dedicating herself to learn their music and play within the same style and genre, she began to gain a lot of attention from people across the globe.

The Medicine Tribe started to share and support her passion, along with her own music. Soon enough, even the members of the band found her music and reached out to her. Madison has since traveled across the country to perform with them along with others who have found her music through Nahko and the gang. She has been blessed to share the stage with the likes of Twiddle, Matisyahu, Trevor Hall, and Dustin Thomas. Following the Grammy-winning Rebirth of New Orleans, Rebirth Brass Band is at it again with Move Your Body, an infectious, groove-laden collection of hip-shakers sure to saturate the dance floor.

Dan Baird is a singer-songwriter, musician and producer best known as the lead singer and rhythm guitarist from the chart-topping 80?s rock band The Georgia Satellites. Baird formed The Georgia Satellites in 1980 and the group ultimately released the self-titled debut Georgia Satellites on Elektra. Their most successful release; the album featured the track "Keep Your Hands to Yourself? which reached No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and went into heavy rotation on MTV.

Baird left the band in 1990 to pursue a solo career and released his first solo album, Love Songs for the Hearing Impaired, in October 1992. "I Love You Period?, a single from the album, charted and peaked at #26 on the Billboard Hot 100. A follow up single "The One I Am" charted and peaked at #13 on Billboard's "Album Rock Tracks? chart.

In 2005, Baird began touring and recording with his band, Homemade Sin which today features two ex-members of The Georgia Satellites, Baird and drummer Mauro Magellan, along with bassist Micke Nilsson and guitarist Warner E. Hodges (of Jason & the Scorchers).

Known for their blazing high-energy live shows, Homemade Sin performs a mixture of Baird's solo material in addition to the hits and fan favorites from his years with the Georgia Satellites. The band has built a solid name and touring history across the UK and Europe. The band's third release Get Loud will drop in Fall 2015 as they gear up for a great year of international touring including North America for select tour dates in 2016.

Caught halfway between the dark swoon of pop-noir, the raw rasp of soul music, and the honest punch of Americana, Suzanne Santo's Ruby Red tells the story of a singer, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist who, more than 10 years into an acclaimed career, is turning a new corner.

Produced by multi-platinum Grammy nominee Butch Walker (whose Los Angeles recording studio gives the album its name), Ruby Red marks Santo's first release as a solo artist. For the past decade, she's spent most of her time fronting the Americana duo HONEYHONEY, whittling her banjo, violin, and vocal chops into sharp shape along the way. Here, she takes a break from that longtime gig to explore something different, creating a moody, sexually-charged album filled with organic instruments, distorted fiddle, Walker's powerful electric guitar, and Santo's most stunning vocal performances to date.

"I think I started writing songs for this record long before I realized that I was writing songs for this record,? said Santo. ?I?ve identified with a collaboration for so long that the thought of taking a leap into the depths of my own music and having no idea what that would look like, definitely came as a shock. I was getting lazy and not finishing the tasks at hand like I really wanted, deep down, to be able to do. Writing this record was bewitching in a way.?

Before they collaborated on Ruby Red, Santo made multiple appearances on Butch Walker's eighth album, Stay Gold. She joined him on the road, too, singing harmonies and playing violin, guitar, and banjo during a nationwide tour in 2016. During breaks in her touring schedule, she began diving into a different type of songwriting, looking to diverse albums by Erykah Badu, David Bowie, Townes Van Zandt, and the Alabama Shakes for inspiration. For years, she'd always been somebody else's bandmate. This was a time to explore her own identity. To write her own music. To ignore genres and defy expectations. To determine what, exactly, she wanted to say. . .and find out the best way to deliver it.

?Once Butch acquiesced to producing the record, I had an ?oh shit!? moment where I realized that I needed to really show up,? continued Santo. ?I had to have songs that were finished, let alone good enough. I couldn?t stop and I wrote all day every day to finish the songs I?d started years ago as well as the few that presented themselves in the 4th quarter. I took long walks in my neighborhood and listened to demos on my cell phone and worked out lyrics. I would also wake up in the middle of the night with new ideas and would get up and write them down or record them. It felt like the songs were seeping through the cracks of my mind and out of my mouth, without much of my consent. I think art is a channel, connected to something much greater than we are and I feel honored when it picks me from time to time.

Ruby Red is an album about love, life, and lust in the modern world. Moody and melody-driven, its 11 songs range from "Handshake" ? the record's epic opening track, equal parts Southern-gothic anthem and slow-burning soul ballad ? to the driving "Ghost in my Bed," which pairs an explosive chorus with layers of mandolin, fiddle, and piano. Meanwhile, tracks like "Better Than That" focus on little more than Santo's voice: an electrifying, elastic instrument that's capable of both vulnerability and ferocity.

Santo and Walker recorded Ruby Red quickly, pulling long hours in Walker's bright, sunlit studio in Southern California. The instrumental tracks were captured live, with help from guests like pedal steel player Dr. Stephen Patt ? Santo's primary care physician, as well as a former member of the Edgar Winter Group ? and drummer Mark Stepro. Santo kept the guest list small, though, splitting the bulk of the instrumental duties with Walker.

"It was incredible to work with Butch. He facilitates a great time and an artistic environment that orbits solely around what?s best for the song, which is so rare in a business full of egos. Butch and this environment liberated and enabled me to work in a way that I never knew I was capable of."

Although Ruby Red marks the start of something new, it doesn't signify the end of Santo's long run with HONEYHONEY. Santo will join bandmate Ben Jaffe in the television series The Guest Book, whose episodes feature the two musicians in acting and musical roles. The show premieres on TBS during the latter half of 2017, adding another bullet point to the acting career Santo launched years before HONEYHONEY's formation.

Santo's story is still unfolding. This is the newest chapter, bringing with it a track list that doubles down on the songwriter's strengths and stretches her limits. There will be more chapters to explore. More colorful stories to tell. But for now, Suzanne Santo's future is looking Ruby Red.
