Human beings have been drawing for tens of thousands of years, and we still find pleasure and peace in this simple, meditative exercise. The course will cover realistic and/or abstract observation of spaces, quality of line, light, shadow and color. Students may use the materials of their choice; suggested materials include charcoal, colored pencils, oil pastels, chalk, or watercolors, and of course paper ? a 16×20? tablet of 90# is fine. (Cheap is good). Devices such as iPads or Androids can be used for research. Instructor Ron Schira brings to class his decades of experience as an artist who draws, as well as the perspective he?s gained as a visual arts critic.

Drawing: Beyond Graphite will provide working artists and novices alike with an opportunity to focus and create in a supportive environment, while benefiting from Mr. Schira?s extensive experience in a wide variety of media and his acute understanding of what makes a drawing work.

Drawing is a wonderful way to communicate when words don?t do the trick. You?ll learn the basics of cartooning, including basic anatomy, and character development, including dialogue and expressions. Students will create a three page storyboard. As a rising senior at the LV Charter Arts High School, Ray Lapinski will be able to relate to your perspective while also providing guidance and demonstrating techniques that will help you convey your story. Ray is a 2017 National Scholastic medal winner. Students will bring their own 8?x12? sketchbook to class; colored pencils, pencils and ink will be provided.

The cartooning class is open to all ages, but is an excellent choice for kids and teens since Ms. Lapinski has an intuitive understanding of the perspective of youth, combined with a solid understanding of technique.

Create a unique and varied mini succulent garden. Succulents come in many shapes and sizes, and Sandy will help you craft a pleasing combination of varieties. She will also explain how best to care for them. This is a wonderful way to slow down and spend some time with nature. Treat yourself to this nurturing and peaceful gardening adventure! Saturday 6/16/18, 10am to 12pm. $40 plus materials fee.
