In this three week workshop, we will explore the recording process at AS220 Industries' media lab and editing suite, available for public use upon completion of this workshop. By the end, you'll gain skills to setup, record, edit, and export projects.

This workshop is intended for media artists, actors, narrators, singers, and podcasters who want to make quality recordings on a low budget in their homes or in our community space. We'll balance theoretical concepts with practical techniques to help you approach your future projects.

Basic computer skills are required, and general understanding of audio is helpful, but not necessary. We use Apple's Garageband software as well as Reaper, a free software like Audacity (but better!) available for Mac and PC. We have seven workstations in the media lab and a private editing suite with up to date equipment and software. Students who wish to use their laptops should have Garageband or Reaper software downloaded and up to date.

In just two weekly sessions bring the intimidation factor from 10 to 0!

Come Equipped with your DSLR camera and get set to learn it like the back of your hand. After this class you'll feel confident using your DSLR, and capture those pictures you've been wanting. Weather permitting, we'll go on a photo walk around downtown Providence.

Listening to podcasts is a way to entertain yourself, keep yourself informed, and hear from people you wouldn?t otherwise hear from, and more and more people are starting to publish them. In this workshop, we will talk about different kinds of podcasts, what makes a good podcast, and go over the basics of recording and editing a podcast episode using Hindenburg Journalist, and publishing a podcast using a service like ShoutEngine, Libsyn, or Podbean. It?s recommended that you listen to at least one podcast before starting this class.

Fine detail and embossment make for stunning, professional-quality business cards, invitations, announcements and labels. Print your favorite poem by hand-setting lead type one letter at a time; make a poster or a broadside with wood type; transfer your line drawings to photo-polymer plate for editioning. This course will cover the old and new uses of the letterpress, from lead to polymer type and linotype printing plate including basic prep file using Adobe software.

You will leave this three-week course with a working knowledge of press operation including: inking the press, pressure and roller height adjusting, registration, feeding paper through the press and cleaning the press.

Class 1: Introduction to letterpress, movable set type, and print
Class 2: Create polymer plates and print
Class 3: Guided workshop

Participants must attend ALL THREE letterpress classes in order to be certified to use the letterpress at AS220 Industries.

Dance to the 'Time Warp'. Dr. Frank-N-Furter builds his own man. Eddie comes out of deep freeze. A rival scientist comes to the castle. And what of the floor show that is held in the middle of the night!
