Gaz Coombes (Solo) at Swedish American Hall

Facebook Popularity:  ( 4+29)

Swedish American Hall

2174 Market St, San Francisco, CA, 94114

This show is partially seated.

It?s been an extraordinary journey for Gaz Coombes, from flashily whiskered pop tearaway to Ivor Novello and BRIT award winning rock star to soundtracking the summer (he was responsible for that sublime cover of The Kinks ?This Time Tomorrow? for John Lewis earlier this year). However the mega watt melodic genius responsible for ten Top 20 hits and six Top 20 albums has often obscured the fact that, like any 37 year old, he?s had his fair share of bumps and bruises along the way.

It?s these aspects of his journey including self doubt, personal loss and drug induced tour
psychosis which he faces up to on his remarkable new album, fittingly entitled

?There?s definitely a tenderness, darkness and uncertainty to the songs,? he says with a smile. ?But I think there?s a resilience and a confidence about being vulnerable, even though that sounds contradictory.?

Presented by Noise Pop & DoTheBay TV Girl "On the surface, TV Girl is a sunny, throwback splash of ?60s French pop and southern California soul. Yet, under that shiny veneer lays a dark heart, beating with sharp wit and cynical alienation, and the music is all the more alluring for it." Wished Bone "Athens, Ohio?s Wished Bone is like Joanna Newsom with twice the Appalachian street cred. Their s...

2015 began Lloyd Cole?s ?retrospective years? in which the UK born, Western Massachusetts-based musician began to revisit his storied career. Colouring at Cafe du Nord

Cafe Du Nord  ( 5+6)

Tue May 22 2018
Fifties painter Mark Rothko, known for his large solid swaths of color, once claimed to have no real interest in the color itself or whatever form it took, only in expressing simple human emotions. In a similar sense, Colouring is the culmination of several sonic hues -- instrumental and electronic, pop and underground, heart and body -- but the aim is all feeling. London's Jack Kenworthy imbues ...
