Gaz Coombes (Solo) at Swedish American Hall

Facebook Popularity:  ( 4+29)

Swedish American Hall

2174 Market St, San Francisco, CA, 94114

This show is partially seated.

It?s been an extraordinary journey for Gaz Coombes, from flashily whiskered pop tearaway to Ivor Novello and BRIT award winning rock star to soundtracking the summer (he was responsible for that sublime cover of The Kinks ?This Time Tomorrow? for John Lewis earlier this year). However the mega watt melodic genius responsible for ten Top 20 hits and six Top 20 albums has often obscured the fact that, like any 37 year old, he?s had his fair share of bumps and bruises along the way.

It?s these aspects of his journey including self doubt, personal loss and drug induced tour
psychosis which he faces up to on his remarkable new album, fittingly entitled

?There?s definitely a tenderness, darkness and uncertainty to the songs,? he says with a smile. ?But I think there?s a resilience and a confidence about being vulnerable, even though that sounds contradictory.?

Swedish American Hall  ( 9+57)

Tue Jun 26 2018
2015 began Lloyd Cole?s ?retrospective years? in which the UK born, Western Massachusetts-based musician began to revisit his storied career. However, the release of 2015?s Lloyd Cole and the Commotions Collected Recordings 1983-1989 was received to un...

Quiet Slang at Cafe du Nord

Cafe Du Nord  ( 2+9)

Mon Jun 25 2018
?Rock and roll is sort of my consolation prize for wanting to have been a writer,? says James Alex. It?s a humble admission from the frontman of Philadelphia?s Beach Slang, a fiery punk quartet whose raucous gigs often find the songwriter?s earnest lyrics bellowed back at him. Still, consider it a feat that fans are even able to hear those words from behind the trembling walls of distortion that ...

Andy Jenkins at Cafe du Nord

Cafe Du Nord  ( 1+2)

Thu Jun 28 2018
From the front porches, alleys, and rivers of Richmond, Virginia, comes Andy Jenkins carrying a crisp, newly cut album, Sweet Bunch. Hatched in the tradition of Southern culture?unhurried in his art, unworried by external demands, yet weirdly ahead of the curve by the time he arrives?Andy is a distinctive and joyously idiosyncratic songwriting talent developed for years in obscurity. Sweet Bunch ...
