It?s back! The Wine Down presented by Charles Smith Wines returns for a sixth year with six more evenings of FREE music and bites, plus local pop-up shops and, of course, wine. The 2018 series at 3TEN Austin City Limits Live continues previous partnerships with the 2ND Street District - Austin, TX, Visit Austin, Texas, and KUTX, with proceeds once again benefiting the Austin Music Foundation.

The Wine Down presented by Charles Smith Wines provides happiest of happy hours from 5PM-8PM on the last Wednesday of each month, April through September. This free celebration of local culture invites Austinites to experience an evening in the 2ND Street District - Austin, TX with music, bites, and shopping from some of our favorite spots. Admission is free and open to the public.

The Get Up Kids are a band that grew up in public. Since forming in Kansas City in 1995, they?ve established themselves as a group whose music withstands trends and transcends the superficial in favor of something that stands the test of time. The four-song Kicker EP -- the band's Polyvinyl Record Co. debut -- is the newest addition to their catalog of influential EPs (such as 1997's Woodson and 1999's Red Letter Day), as well as their first new release since 2011?s LP There Are Rules. Since that album came out the band have been touring when their schedules permits and living very adult lives that include activities like raising kids (Matt, Rob, Jim), moving away (James) and moving back (Ryan), starting businesses (Ryan), getting a degree in geology (Jim), joining a local kickball league (Matt), accidentally being electrocuted on stage (Rob), or simply struggling with social media.
Correspondingly while the band?s early releases were written while the band members were entering their twenties, Kicker sees them in their forties, and the songs show a perspective that can only be learned from experience. The Get Up Kids have never been afraid to try something new, but the songs here -- recorded over the course of the last year at Fire and Ice studio in Baldwin, Kansas -- mark a full-circle breakthrough for the band.
The Get Up Kids are: Matt Pryor (guitars/vocals), Jim Suptic (guitars/vocals), Rob Pope (bass), Ryan Pope (drums), and James Dewees (keys).

Katie Von Schleicher rose from intern to artist on Brooklyn label Ba Da Bing with Bleaksploitation, a self-recorded 2015 mini album of irreverent, fuzz-laden tunes. On her debut full-length, Von Schleicher strikes again on the magic that comes from her warped and uncompromising sound. Shitty Hits channels the bright, sunny radio burners of the 1970?s, songs you drive to, carefree, and songs you can cry to, which The Guardian describe as ?Portishead meets the Beatles,? and NPR?s Bob Boilen calls ?one of those constant repeat records for me.?

Conjuring the home recorded sound of Paul McCartney?s McCartney or Jeff Buckley?s Sketches For My Sweetheart The Drunk, Shitty Hits was created on a tape machine at Von Schleicher?s childhood home in Maryland. Where Bleaksploitation courted a kind of sonic nihilism, Shitty Hits shows confidence, growth and unflinching self-realization.
