Daisy Castro & Jack Soref & Volt Jingjit - Gypsy Swing & Beyond!

Facebook Popularity:  ( 1+0)

Arts at the Armory Cafe 191 Highland Ave. Somerville, MA 02143

An outstanding interpreter of early European Jazz of the 1930s and 40s, in the style of Django Reinhardt?s Quintette du Hot Club de France, Daisy Castro has emerged as a revitalizing force for the genre, stunning first time audience members, and continuing to enthrall even those that have seen her perform many times before. Her dynamic playing channels some of the early greats, while adding a modern edge to the "jazz manouche" tradition.

Daisy has been an active member of the Gypsy Jazz community both in the United States and in Europe since she was 14 years old. She has played on stages on both continents with all of the masters. Now, with three recordings rooted in this style under her belt, she has earned the respect of said masters and their knowledgeable audiences, which is no small feat in this traditionally male dominated genre.

Daisy is touring to promote her newest project, World On Fire, which reaches even further around the globe for its influences. Encompassing everything from Django compositions to salsa to traditional Turkish music, it opens up a whole new world of exploration for her group.

Born and raised in Madison, Wisconsin, Jack Soref has spent the last 15 years iiving in Boston, where he has been one of the pillars upon which the city's fairly substantial Jazz Manouche music scene rests.

Jack has performed at jazz clubs, restaurants, concert halls, and festival stages all over the USA as well as internationally on stages in France, Canada, and Scotland. His guitar playing has been heard on radio shows such as NPR's 'Here and Now', NPR's 'Says You', Lost Highway on WMBR, WZBC's Sunday Morning Country with Cousin Kate, as well as PRI and BBC's Internationally distributed radio show 'The World'.

For this performance, Jack will perform with violinist Volt Jingjit, a native of Thailand. In addition to the jazz manouche material they perform together, they will also perform some compositions written by the late King of Thailand. The tunes he wrote are pretty much swing tunes, but they have their own personality. It all fits seamlessly with the the jazz manouche style.
